HEADLINE:  “Bribery” and “Kickbacks” lead to indictment of former city officials

Window – Monday, February 5, 2008
Mr. Woods how many countless businessmen and contractors have you had your greedy hand out, too?  We know about the demolition man and Nederland Homes, what about the others who attended your"Home Show" at the convention center? Did you pay for the rental on the convention center, while you were using it to promote your own personal gain? Maybe, the FBI should look into this?
How, about your home did you make that an entitlement of the City,"Brookshire White House". Should Mayor Vaughn and family move in?
How many times did you ask new business men and women, "Are you a Good Neighbor"? Prove it! Feed the "kitty"... Remember, the little Mexican Resturant we had for a short while... Keith's car was parked there almost every day getting a free meal.. No wonder they went out of business..
You'll pay now! Priceless................

HEADLINE:  FBI nabs Woods and Cheney

Indicted – Not Convicted

1badtk – Sunday, February 3
It always amazes me how any public official gone corrupt can think they won't get caught. With all the checks and balances in goverement and FBI Scams one would figure a clean political record would be one's goal. In a small town like Brookshire where I have only lived for one year, everyone knows what everyone is doing. Word travels fast on the streets of Brookshire, most of those in the know already knew what was happening. Most contractors can't keep their mouths closed to "winning" a bid, or public official. Yawn, give us some real news.........

the man – Thursday, January 31
Well here we are once again.  The ex mayor has been accused of more crimes.  This man has been convicted before of misappropriating city money, remember the travel money.  This time it is a little different.  The federal government is the accusor.  I find it interesting that the local officals such as the police, DA and others all said that they knew about it but did not get involved with the progress of justice.  That is because the feds can not be intimidated or coerced by Mr. Woods and his henchmen.  There have been ample opportunities for others to act in the name of decency but they have consistently refused to do such.  Remember the elderly gentleman Mr. Woods assualted?  Remember the tractor?  Remember the Hovas park fence?  Mr. Woods has shown for years his lack of respect for the law, rules and regulations.  His supporters speak of his contribution he has made to the city.  I do not see nor do I experience such.  Every other community around us is growing, developing, improving the quality of life  and services for the people and protecting property values.  We sit here like a bump on a log. The reason for this is we continue to vote for the most part the same ineffective "we have always done it this way" leaders.  This man has tarnished the reputation of this community which harms all of us and only he and his henchmen benefit.  If he is on the up and up why has he not filed the title to his house with the county.  How does a man that earns a small income as mayor of a small no count dumpy Texas town afford 2 houses, new cars, trips to gambling casinos etc. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure it out.  The actions of the feds, while appreciated, are in my opinion too little too late.

Window – Wednesday, January 30
It's about time! Wonder when they'll get the rest of the scum! Kudos FBI

grateful – Wednesday, January 30
I am so sick of hearing the word prejudice in reference to keith woods. We are all responsible for what we have done and not done. keith stole from the people he was supposed to protect. He is responsible because he has not protected the citizens or his family. It is about time the people of color stop trying to make excuses and hold a person's feet to the fire when he has been negligent, stolen taxpayer money and as everybody in brookshire knows been an unfaithful husband. Has he set a good example for his children? God will take care of the everlife, but thank God keith will pay the price here on earth.

mal – Wednesday, January 30

The Fed's deal with Federal Issues and the local authorities deal with the rest like misappropriation of monies for dog pounds, cemetaries, the taking back of scholarship monies etc. That's why the new mayor hasn't asked for a state audit. I doubt the city council & new mayor will investigate themselves cause they know what's been going on, And I don't think the DA even knows where Brookshire is.  If the citizens of Brookshire would complain to the DA then maybe the ball would start rolling but the DA needs a little push as I think he's in way over his head. If the DA won't pursue the issues then maybe the State officials will. Brookshire residents need to pursue this to clean up their town.

cleanup time – Wednesday, January 30

As far as the municipal water district - a JOKE! the new president is a former council member who was NOT certified as of 2007. Keith was instrumental in getting rid of the administration he didn't like and putting "his people" in there.

babydolly – Wednesday, January 30, 2008

While Brookshire City Hall is still being cleaned up, and there is plenty still left to do there even with the newly elected officials doing business as usual, what about Brookshire Municipal Water Dept. workers keeping the old black cemetery clean in Pattison on CITY TIME and Norman Vaughan with BMWD getting paid for it by the cemetery association? More misuse of power and money..?

madman – Tuesday, January 29, 2008
In response to one of the comments - the dogs at the pound being abused and sold.  Shouldn't the FBI investigate where or what happened to these dogs since it is known that trucks being backed up to the pound and dogs being sold for $20.00 where was the dog catcher.....why was he not protecting these dogs ? That's his job isn't it...or is he in on the click on dog fighting...

Glad to hear – Tuesday, January 29, 2008
I was glad to hear that Keith is finally being held accountable for all the evil and corrupt things he has done. For years now, Keith has lied, cheated and stolen. He has stolen money from city hall to line his own pockets, cheated his own citizens - black, Hispanic and white - and made a mockery out of Brookshire.
Hopefully, the FBI will continue to investigate and find the laundry list of corruptness by Keith and others in city hall. For starters there's the illegal voting that has gone on for years, the stolen tractor that was used for Keith's personal use and city business and the other "shady" happenings. Maybe the FBI should check into the Juneteenth funds and "scholarship" monies also. Let's not forget the numerous indictments Keith has also had.
The story about the pound, i understand it to be true also. I bet if the FBI did a financial audit of city hall and found what hasn't been shredded - they could put Keith away for life.
Now if they could just clean out the rest of city hall and get rid of all the bad apples.
To "Tired of Prejudice" - I don't care if Keith had purple skin - this isn't about race or being "crabby". It's about a public official that for years lied and stole taxpayers dollars. He intimidated and was hostile to anyone who didn't agree with his corrupt ways and fall into his bribery schemes. He didn't care about the citizens of Brookshire unless they were his relatives and even some of them he did wrong. He cared about lining his pockets and having power. So why should we feel sorry for him? Maybe when he was first elected he was a different person, but the last 10 years or so he did NOTHING for the citizens as a whole - of all races. He divided the community by playing the race card at every turn - just as you tried to do. He used the citizens tax dollars to lie, steal and cheat.
As far as his wife and children, yes, I feel for his kids - they deserve better. However, his wife I do not. She knew what her husband was doing and stood by him anyway. She knew about his corruptness and defended it. May God watch over the innocent children but the wife gets what she deserves.
I could go on and on but I think the point is made.
oh, by the way named sources are a lot more credible.

Justice – Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Finally!! I thought I never see the day when these Brookshire crooks have to face the FBI. Congratulations and many thanks to the FBI and  to the brave citizens that have now come forward to report the wrong-doings of ex-Mayor Woods and Mr. Cheney. In 2004 I became a volunteer at the Brookshire Pound to make improvements after a horrible abuse of a dog. The person who called and reported this abuse is in my eyes a hero, because everyone in Brookshire was too afraid to report any City wrongdoings.  My question is, where did the yearly $6,000 budget allocation for the pound go? Not to the pound!! Volunteers paid for improvements, food, construction of stalls, vet bills winterizing, etc. I hope someone will be looking for this money. By the way, I was told the pound is gone, taken down, destroyed .... Where do the dogs go now? To the dog fighting rings?  I always had the feeling that something is not right there, even the City employees acted peculiar (afraid?). And the police,!   are they doing their job? Hmmmm .... What's wrong with that picture? Citizens of Brookshire, please help to clean up your town, this is your home and I pray that you will succeed. Come forward and report whatever you know, your children will thank you for it!

Tired,

No one is throwing the race card out there but YOU.  If he can't do the time, he shouldn't do the crime and from where I am sitting, that man is guilty as sin.  "Let God deal with him"?????  What?  Sorry, that is not the way our justice system works.  Hopefully, he will go to jail for a long time.  Looks to me like the City of Brookshire is right up there with Louisiana when it comes to corruption.

racerxyz – Monday, January 28, 2008
In jail at last!!!!! In jail at last!!!!! its about time those crooks are in jail at last
I live in Brookshire for 17yrs but moved alittle over a year ago cause of the crooked ways the city let a so called builder names "______" build homes all over brookshire and the homes he built are not built to texas building codes this is why I moved out of lakeside the homes he built there are lawsuits waiting to happen so underbuilt he had to pay cheney off to pass inspection all I can say its about TIME......

mal – Monday, January 28, 2008
Bryce's comments are correct. There is a check from Netherlin Homes made out to Woods for $250 for the Johnson's house built on Hovas Park Rd. Here's the intersting part, Was the Johnson house built with Federal Grant money that Keith gave them? If so, did Netherlin Homes conspire with Keith...In other words, if you "Woods" get the Johnsons to build a house with us we will give you back $250.......Look around and you will see many Netherlin Homes in Brookshire. Did you know that Cheney's house on 2nd street is for sale? CHeck out HAR.COM....Guess he figures if he sells it then the Fed's can't get it...WRONG

bryce on Monday, January 28, 2008
Several years ago there was a rumor (that turned out to be true) that Keith received $250 for each home that netherland homes built. was that a kick back ? or was it a bribe ? I do not know, but I understand that there is a copy (check stub ) still available. It was supposedly secured by a local bank employee. Believe that employee is still employed. Enquiring minds can contribute to mr. woods long prison sentence !!! I am sure there is more, so lets tell all. there must be others in on this thing. I suspect a much lager group should go to jail, woops, prison, federal that is.......

Tired of Prejudice – Monday, January 28

I am so tired of this little town of Brookshire keeping up so much confusion. I hope no one think doing wrong is ok to do, if Mr. Woods and Mr. Cheney did what the media is they did...let God almighty deal with them and whoever else is doing wrong. Stealing is not the only sin, lying, ditch digging [for people who don't go to church, that mean while you are scheming and digging a ditch for someone else to fall in oops! don't forget to dig your own]...there are several people in high positions that are stealing but sometime we close our eyes because of who they are and the color of their skin. Brookshire stop hating Mr. Woods so much that you want to see this man taken away from his wife and children. I am from the big city of Houston, but I lived in Brookshire for a few years, I see that Mr. Woods has done so much for that little town. God is calling us to unity, peace and love....those of you that call yourselves christians we are going to be together, there will not be a s! ection for the blacks, whites. mexicans, etc.....learn how to love down here first..stop being a bucket of crabs when you see your brother or sisters going to the top, get together and push them on..I love everyone, because if I don't I can't see God face.....

Sherry in Houston – Monday, January 28
As a former volunteer at the Brookshire Pound, some of us felt strongly that ex-Mayor Woods was stealing from the city budget and diverting the funds for his own personal use.  The Brookshire 2004 budget allocated $6,000 for the pound. And yet, Zeke, the dog catcher  never had any money at all to use for the animals. At that time everything the animals had - from vetting for severely injured dogs to food to winterizing materials to prevent the animals from suffering came from volunteers and many from Houston as so many Brookshire residents expressed fear to be involved with the pound which is at the backdoor of the Brookshire police station. How was it that with policemen sitting in the office, dog fighters could back up their trucks at the pound and steal dogs for dog fights?
It is shocking that  in a city  in the United States so many citizens could be so afraid of their own mayor and his henchmen and feel intimidated to speak out.  Hopefully now that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved, justice will finally be served for both the human residents as well as the poor animals who were at the mercy of a criminal administration.

mal – Sunday, January 27
Let's not forget that several years ago Woods was indicted on theft charges and admitted to being a thief. It would lead me to believe this is just the tip of the iceberg and that there will be other people coming forward with their tales..It's interesting how Cheney says he's broke, yet he lives in a house with an appraised value of appx. $280,000, did he get some of that federal money to build the house? And how does he pay for it now, without a job? Woods has 2 homes both appraised at appx. $250,000. As he was the person in charge of giving out the federal grant money it makes me wonder how his homes were paid for. It's also odd why the new mayor didn't call for an audit of the city funds controlled by Woods, when he, the new mayor took office. At this point I believe the birds will start singing and others involved in Brookshire's city government will be going down next...Let's watch to see who else falls. Oh, one more thing, what happened to the development on Hwy 362 at Stella Rd.? How were Woods and Cheney involved in that shut down project?
