Friday, July 17, a Peaceful Protest was held in Hempstead over the death of Sandra Bland. Ms. Bland was found deceased in the Waller County Jail. Preliminary reports listed her death as asphyxiation. Approximately seventyfive people marched from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office to the Waller County Courthouse. While few Waller County residents were in attendance at the protest, it received wide coverage by media.

The July 14 council meeting of the City of Pattison had an agenda item by Alderman Joe Garcia to discuss creating a resolution in support of keeping the Waller County Annex in Pattison.Commissioner Justin Beckendorff has been pushing for a new office and location since entering office. The possible location would be near elected officials’ homes in the Katy area.

The Waller County District Attorney and the Waller County Sheriff’s Office today executed a search warrant at a location in Waller County, Texas to search for any horses on the property or any evidence relating to allegations by neighbors of animal cruelty involving horses on the property. Yesterday afternoon, Judge Albert McCaig, of the 506th District Court reviewed allegations made by neighbors regarding the property and found probable cause to search the property for horses in need of veterinary care. The warrant was executed this morning beginning at 11AM.
