Relief efforts, while well intended, sometimes are not well organized between groups and may duplicate efforts. In order to prevent such confusion a number of agencies, volunteer groups and some elected officials have been meeting weekly at United Way in Brookshire. They meet to have conversation and coordination of efforts and to update the group on what they have accomplished, along with any unforeseen and unmet needs.

This year’s Cinco de Mayo festival was delayed by flooding and city elections. That didn’t deter the enthusiasm of parade participants. Led by the Valley Lodge Trail Ride wagon and the traditional flag bearers, the parade kicked off the annual festival.

Approximately 1300 Royal ISD students were directly impacted by the April flooding. Hundreds of volunteers have helped those students and their families. The students and staff wanted to show their thanks to the volunteers and agencies who have helped. They devised this display as a result.
