BVFD now taking donations
for garage sale
The Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department is now taking
donations for their annual garage sale to be held on May 5. Donations
will be accepted until the week of the sale. To donate items call
Francis Gibbs at 713-560-4105. She will meet you at the fire stations to
collect items.
Child Safety seat classes
to be held in May
The Safe Riders Child Safety Seat Distribution classes held at the
Waller County office of Texas Cooperative Extension at 846 6th Street,
in Hempstead have been set. May classes will be
held on Tuesday, May 8 at 6 p.m. and Wednesday, May 23 at 10 a.m.
Each class is limited to five families, so the family must sign up for
the class that they would like to attend if space allows, according to
course instructor Lynna Wright, County Extension Agent for Family &
Consumer Sciences. To sign up for the class, contact the Extension
office at 979-826-7651 or 281-391-5565 from Brookshire/Pattison area and
ask for the Extension office. The child safety seats provided by Safe
Riders are free of charge to qualifying families. The types of child
safety seats being distributed include Evenflo Tribute V convertibles,
Sightseer high back boosters and the Big Kid backless boosters. There
are no infant carrier with base safety seats available.
Nutrition & Medication management class set for April
28
The Council for Health Education and Development, LLC in conjunction
with Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Area Agency on Aging and
Elderly and Caregiver Support Services will present a Nutrition and
Medication Management. It is a four-hour class given by a registered
dietitian and a speech/language pathologist focusing on food and drug
interactions, classification of drugs, signs and symptoms of concern,
talking to the pharmacist and doctor, feeding problems and medications,
types of disorders and their affect on nutrition, and safety tips. The
seminar will be held on Saturday, April 28 at the United Way Service
Center, 531 FM 359, in Brookshire from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Call

registered participants.
Goat Field Day set for May 5
The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences is holding the Annual Goat
Field Day, Sat., May 5 on campus. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. in
the Carden-Waller Cooperative Extension Building and program activities
begin at 8 a.m.
The featured presentation at this year’s event is Management of Goats
for Profit. Dr. Frank Pinkerton, aka “The Goat Man” who is a retired
Extension specialist and Marvin Shurley, president of the American Meat
Goat Association, will conduct this session.
Other workshops focus on wether selection and feeding, reproduction in
goats, general management practices and forage production. Registration
fee for the Goat Field Day, which includes refreshments, lunch and
conference materials, is $15 for the first adult, then an additional $10
per adult in the group. The fee for youth, ages 6-18, is $6.00.

WC Fair heifer & steer tag-in May 5
Heifer and steer tag-in for the Waller County Fair Association 2007
Junior Heifer and Steer shows is Saturday, May 5 from 7 a.m. until 12
noon at the Waller County Fairgrounds.
Junior exhibitors may tag-in up to two Heifer projects. All Junior
Heifer entries must be brucellosis vaccinated prior to the heifer tag-in
and proof of vaccination must be presented at the time of tag-in in the
form of an ear tag, ear tattoo or Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
Junior Heifer entries are limited to Heifers weighing no less than 500
pounds and no more than 1,000 pounds at the heifer tag-in.
German sausage dinner to be held May 5
The 24th annual German Sausage dinner will be held at Christ Lutheran
Church on Saturday, May 5 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tickets are
available in advance from church members or at the door. Tickets are $7
for adults and $3 for children under 12. Enjoy a live German “Oompah”
band, silent auction, Kinderfest kid’s area, bake sale and lots of door
prizes. Proceeds support local charities including the
Brookshire/Pattison Food Pantry, Krause Children's Center,
Brookshire/Pattison Area Transient Fund and special church projects.

Cinco De Mayo Festival to be held May
5
The City of Brookshire Cinco De Mayo Festival will be held Saturday, May
5 and Sunday, May 6. On Saturday, festivities will take place at the
Brookshire Convention Center from 9 a.m. until 1 a.m. and on Sunday from
10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Hovas Park. On Saturday, there will be live
music, soccer, volleyball, kiddie rides, crafts, jalapeno eating contest
and tamale eating contest. Proceeds go to the Royal High School

Brookshire-Pattison library summer
reading program to begin June 1
The Waller County Brookshire-Pattison Library will begin their summer
reading program on June 1. Many activities are planned around this
year’s theme, “Sail Away with Books.” The purpose of the program is to
promote reading and attract children to the library. Every summer
participating children are challenged to read between 12 and eighteen
